Hawkins speaks at Chamber Luncheon

LISD Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins spoke at the Livingston - Polk County Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Membership Luncheon held on Tuesday, September 27. Hawkins shared, “Public educators are uniters, not dividers. We want to leave a legacy of making something better than we found it. Right now, in any segment of society, we see a sight of heightened agitation. Conflict is en vogue, and anger is very common throughout our society which is the collateral damage from this pandemic. From a mental health aspect, we all have to take a deep breath and focus on being kind to our fellow classmates, coworkers, and community members. It is very difficult navigating in these times, and that state of agitation spills over into our school systems. That’s something that is relevant that our teachers have to deal with, as well as our parents and our administration. From that standpoint, we have to ask each other for a little grace. There is no one that is perfect.Every person in every school district is rolling up their sleeves every day with two things in mind, keeping kids safe and accelerating learning to help kids be successful in life.”
