PTO

Parents are a child's first and best teacher!

Hundreds of research studies show that when parents get involved, children do better in school.

Join a campus PTO today!

 Studies indicate that parent involvement in education has a positive effect at all grade levels: elementary, middle, and high school. Middle school and high school students especially benefit from parent involvement and it's a great way for parents to be more aware of what's going on in their teenager’s lives, from friends and classes to after-school activities.

Livingston ISD wants every one of our student's parents to have a chance to get involved on their child's campus. Research shows that when parents are involved in their children's education, the children are more likely to:

* earn better grades
* score higher on tests
* pass their classes
* attend school regularly
* have better social skills
* show improved behavior
* be more positive in their attitude toward school
* complete homework assignments
* graduate and continue their education

Common PTO Myths:

MYTH 1: It takes a lot of time to volunteer for the PTO - You can volunteer as little or as much as you like. Even thirty minutes a month is enough to help make phone calls, run a simple errand, or help a teacher with extra duty. Every bit helps.

MYTH 2: All PTO members are stay-at-home moms and dads. - Many of our PTO members work full-time. That’s the main reason why many of the great programs our PTO's sponsor are after school hours and on weekends.

MYTH 3: PTO's are just for Moms. - PTO's are successful when lots of different kinds of people get involved. In fact, research shows that when Dads are involved their children are more likely to earn better grades, be involved in extra-curricular activities, and enjoy school more. Grandparents are also important members of today's PTOs.

MYTH 4: I will feel like an outsider because schools are just for school faculty and students. - So you say you don't feel comfortable coming on campus? What better way to get to know your child's school than to build positive working relationships with the teachers, administrators, and parents of other kids at your child's school? LISD faculty is delighted to know we have caring parents of the kids they work so hard with every day. YOU are the most important piece of the puzzle that makes up your child's unique educational experience. By working more closely together, teachers and parents can work as a team to make sure your child is getting everything they need to become a successful and productive member of the Livingston community or where ever they go!
